Bible Question:
How do Christians know they’re not being deceived? I look at different web sites and when they give different answers to the same question I’m puzzled who is right. Try googling, Days of Proclamation, Gap Theory, Day-age Theory they believe the Earth is old. Then google Literal Interpretation of Genesis One they believe the Earth is young. So I ask a local Church that was online that I was thinking about going too, and ask them about how they thought Genesis One I got the response that say they didn’t care what I believe they welcome all comers. Then there is the question is there a Rapture or isn’t their one. I know I’m new and just scratching the surface of all the differences that could be out there about Christianity. How will I know I’m following Jesus and build a strong foundation in the Bible? Are there any books I can read to answer this? |
Bible Answer: Bit of advice; when the Bible makes plain sense make no other sense or it becomes nonsense. When it comes to numbers the Bible has given so many exact prophecies using numbers that came true that it makes sense to take the Bible at it's word when it comes to numbers unless the prophet directly indicates that the numbers are allegorical. Consider, if God could make Jesus a man who is God come to earth which is the greatest miracle, then He could make the earth in six 24 hour days. I Thessalonians 4:13-17 and I Corinthians 15:50-57 tells us there will be a rapture and in Revelation after chapter 4 there is no more mention of any one from the church living on the earth, only unbelievers and then 144,000 Jews who start evangelising the message of the salvation of Jesus Christ to the world. And you don't see or hear of the church again until Revelation 19 when the raptured church comes back to earth with Jesus so He can rage war on the unbelievers and the Anti-Christ. You have to read the Bible to answer these questions you have and believe that it is the inerrant word of God without error. Want a good book on the Bible? Try John MacAruthur's Bible Commentary, google it... At christianbooks.com A literal interpretation of the Bible is leading towards the truth, a figurative interpretation of the Bible leads to false teachings. Get a Strong's Concordance of the Bible and start looking things up by searching for a key word, it will give you every passage on that word. Try www.blueletterbible, it will do the same thing... Try asking churches over the phone if they are Reformed, Liberal, Conservative, or Dispensational, the last two are your best bet in terms of accuracy in interpretations of the Bible. |
