Bible Question:
How do Christians know they’re not being deceived? I look at different web sites and when they give different answers to the same question I’m puzzled who is right. Try googling, Days of Proclamation, Gap Theory, Day-age Theory they believe the Earth is old. Then google Literal Interpretation of Genesis One they believe the Earth is young. So I ask a local Church that was online that I was thinking about going too, and ask them about how they thought Genesis One I got the response that say they didn’t care what I believe they welcome all comers. Then there is the question is there a Rapture or isn’t their one. I know I’m new and just scratching the surface of all the differences that could be out there about Christianity. How will I know I’m following Jesus and build a strong foundation in the Bible? Are there any books I can read to answer this? |
Bible Answer: Hi, frii... Welcome to the forum! Have you noticed that you are asking questions about the past and the future? Only a tiny percent of the Bible deals with these things. They provide a huge amount of distraction and huge amount of debate. If you want to "scratch the surface" why start with this obscure stuff? If you want to build upon a sure foundation, build upon those things that are clear in the Scriptures. Why start with the appetizer or with dessert, when there is so much good, solid meat in the main course? The more you learn about Christianity, the more you'll realize how much effort is expended by fringe groups on all those border questions. Is it not sufficient to believe in childlike faith that God started it all and will finish it all, and that He will do it in His own way and to His own glory? God by "His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us to His own glory and excellence" (2 Peter 1:3). He has provided us salvation, for what we need to know cannot be understood by the lost (1 Corinthians 2:14); He has provided us His written and living Word (Hebrews 1:1-2); He has provided us the illumination of His Holy Spirit (John 14:26); He has gifted us with instruction from the prophets, apostles, and teachers through the church (Ephesians 4:7-14); and He has given us one another (Hebrews 3:11-15). So a find a good, solid, Biblical church where you will receive nurturing in Christ. In Him, Doc |
