Subject: instruments played in church |
Bible Note: Dear belovedofgod, Welcome to the forum. Scriptures: Gen 1:2, Ps 2:11, Ps 96:9, Ps 19:1-6, Eccl 3:11, Hab 2:20, 1 Chr 6:32, 2 Chr 23:18, John 4:24, 1 Cor 14:33-40 Although scriptures did not clearly state what kind of music acceptable in praise and worship, I believe there are numerous scriptures providing us hints or principles to consider the criteria for choosing proper music and instruments used. In Gen 1:2 – the earth was formless and void… See how God created the earth in an orderly manner. In the OT time, worships were done strictly according to what was written in the scriptures (1 Chr 6:32, 2 Chr 23:18). Even in NT, Paul had emphasized that God is not a God of confusion but of peace and all things must be done properly and in an orderly manner (1 Cor 14:33-40) It is also interesting to see that in the Book of Revelation, it has recorded a number of heavenly worships in order regardless of the tribulation and disorder situation on earth (Rev 4:8-11, 5:8-14, 7:9-12, 14:1-5, 15:2-5, 19:4-6). The focus is on Christ. I think, it would be necessary that the music be Christ-centred, does not cause confusion to the congregation but bring them to savour the heavenly peace and joy thus to glory God. Just my 2 cents.
