Bible Question:
Does The Bible Forbid Migration To Other Lands? I have come across some verses in the Bible which would suggest it is not permissible for peoples to migrate. This is a concern for me as my ancestors migrated from Europe to Oceania. 1) In the Book of Deuteronomy 32:8 it is written: "When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance, when he divided all mankind, he set up boundaries for the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel." 2) In the Book of Acts 17:26 it is written: "From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands." Do these verses suggest that migration away from the boundaries the Lord Almighty has already set for peoples is impermissible? |
Bible Answer: I imagine the American Indian wished we hadn't migrated. While I think you are trying to make a prohibition where one doesn't exist. For example Abraham migrated from the land of his fathers to a land that God showed him. We also know the spread of Christianity is mainly done by migration of Christians to the rest of the world. That said I think sometimes we are too willing to accept what society has to offer rather than retain what of forefathers have given us. |
