Bible Question: Where did God and Jesus come from? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Cody... God is the creator of all things (Acts 17:24). He has no origin, nor is His existence dependent on anything. As Athanasius put it in the third century, “There never was when He was not.” Sometimes He is referred to as the “Causeless Cause.” We know about God because He has revealed Himself to us (Hebrews 1:1-2). He alone is to be worshiped and loved (Deuteronomy 6:4-5; Isaiah 44:6-45:25 ). God is a Triunity of three Persons (called the Trinity): The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are coequal and coeternal. You will find a wonderful statement of what the Bible reveals about God in the Nicene Creed. This is a statement with which all Christendom agrees. (You will see it referred to in the Terms of Use of the forum.) See http://www.reformed.org/documents/nicene.html Jesus was the incarnation of the Son of God, born of the Virgin Mary. Another consensus in Christianity is the Definition of Calcedon. See http://www.reformed.org/documents/chalcedon.html Here is a very helpful outline that explains the Biblical basis for the doctrine of the Trinity: http://www.equip.org/articles/the-biblical-basis-of-the-doctrine-of-the-trinity/ In Him, Doc |
