Bible Question: this question is about speaking in tongues, if i do not speak in tongues does it mean i do not have the holy spirit in me? |
Bible Answer: No! The absence of speaking tongues does not mean you don't have the Holy Spirit in you. I realize many mistakenly teach that unless you speak in tongues you aren’t fully saved or don’t have the fullness of the Holy Spirit. But I think they are wrong. Upon our salvation we are given everything, Whether we use it or not depends on us and willingness to yield our will to the Holy Spirit. If you don’t speak in tongues it simply means you haven't learned to completely yield to the Holy Spirit to the point He can speak through you. What does that mean? It means when we are able to yield our will to the Holy Spirit to the point that He can speak through us we have become more pliable in His hands more moldable so as to accomplish what God desires. Many get caught up in the debate over whether tongues have ceased or not. However missionaries constantly tell stories of preaching in English and have the listener that speaks only in his native tongue hearing everything being said as though the missionary was speaking in that native tongue. Therefore I'm not convinced that speaking in tongues has ceased as many would have us believe. |
