Bible Note: Dear Bill, Given Lockman's stated purposes, I would assume that they are choosing a set of creeds and confessions that represent the broad base of concensus in Christendom. Consequently, it would be safe to assume that they intend the Nicene Creed as ammended in 381. Documentation is available for the debates that gave rise to each phrase and, in some cases, each specific word. Creeds and confessions derive their authority from Scripture. For example, from my own confession, it states, "The supreme judge, by which all controversies of religion are to be determined, and all decrees of councils, opinions of ancient writers, doctrines of men, and private spirits, are to be examined, and in whose sentence we are to rest, can be no other but the Holy Scripture delivered by the Spirit, into which Scripture so delivered, our faith is finally resolved. (Matt. 22:29, 31, 32; Eph. 2:20; Acts 28:23)" --1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith, chapter 1, paragraph 10 What is the name of the college you are attending?
