Bible Question: is there a passage in the bible where it describes high priests in the jewish religion going behind the tabernacle with a bell and a rope attached so when the bell rang they knew that he was dead? |
Bible Answer: The passage that you may be thinking of is Leviticus 10:1-2. Aaron's two sons Nadab and Abihu came and offered incense that was not authorized before the Lord. They were then killed by fire from the presence of the Lord. Because of this incident, it is rumored that the priest going into the Holy of Holies would wear bells and be tied to a long rope. As long as people outside heard the bells, they knew that the priest was ok. But if the bells went silent, it would be feared that the priest was dead and his body could be dragged out using the rope without anyone else violating the Holy of Holies. Peace to you, George |
