Bible Question:
I need someone more fluent in greek to help clear up a discrepancy between the NIV Bible and King James. In the NIV Revelations 5 verse ten we read, "10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth." But in KJV it reads, "10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth." The question is this: What does the greek text really say? Is it "made them" and "they will" according to NIV OR is it "made us" and "we shall" of the KJV? NIV would imply all saints to be kings and priests while KJV implys that only the 4 beasts and 24 elders will be the kings and priests. |
Bible Answer: Greetings RRHill! Excellent question! The Textus Receptus, upon which the KJV is based, reads 'us', but there is very little textual support for the reading. Other translations use 'them', which has much greater textual support. So, the NIV would be more accurate in it's reading and translation in this case. I hope this helps!
