Bible Question: ive heard many request to pray for the dead miners killed in the coal mine explosion...does the word of god give us any direction in praying for the dead?? |
Bible Answer: Greetings wejlly, According to the gospel of John the opposite it true. One’s fate is determined while they are “still alive and residing on this earth”. John 3:16-18 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. This is backed up with the following verses as well. John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. One knows if they have eternal life before they die that or they don’t actually have it and if a person doesn’t believe this they in effect are making God out to be a liar! 1 John 5:10-13 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. Harsh but true, if one doesn’t fully trust in God’s Son, Jesus Christ, there is no hope for them and these aren’t my words but God’s! John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. There are those that would argue with this fact, that’s because they haven’t experienced it yet. Ephes. 1:12-14 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
