Bible Question: The Bible says if I approah (have sexual intercouse) with my wife while she's going through her menstrual cycle I have become "unclean" along with her. The law of Moses commanded that we both bathe in water and shall be "unclean" until the evening. I have two questions 1. Even though it was a Mosaic law, is it still a sin the have sexual intercourse with my wife when she's going through her time of menstruation? 2. Why until the evening, what was so special about the evening? |
Bible Answer: Greetings humility, Answer to question no.2 first because it's easier: Evening began a new day. Having relations under these circumstances was not a matter of sin or trespass, simply a matter of uncleanness, a state preventing one from coming to the tabernacle/temple (otherwise it would become defiled). Question 1 - There are some states of uncleanness that were removed by Jesus. If you read about the ritual of purification (Num. 20) which was for the really big defilement - touching a corpse - and then connect that back to the cross (John 19:34) you can see that we, as believers, not only get covered in the blood that flowed, but also the living water that was necessary (in the ritual) when His side was pierced. We are perpetually covered in the blood and living waters of salvation and purification. Alex |
