Bible Question: How many Heavens are there? I know that in ll cORINTHIANS 12 VS 2 Paul was caught up into the third heaven, but in Genius it says that the LORD created the heavens. And in other places it says heavens leaving a question of how many. I also question if thereare seven since the LORD seems to have done everything in sevens. Thank you James C. |
Bible Answer: Dear James: Welcome to the forum. When the Bible talks about the third Heaven it does not mean that there are three Heavens where God has a throne and where we think of it as the Heaven in which God dwells. It simply means that that is where Paul was caught up to. i.e. The Heaven where Jesus sits at the right hand of God, as opposed to the other places in Scripture where the word Heaven means something else. The first Heaven would be what we call our atmosphere, or where we find air for birds and planes to fly in. Gen 1:20 Then God said, "Let the waters teem with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of the heavens.” The second Heaven would be outer space, where we find the stars. Job 12:7, Job 35:11, Ps 8:8, Ps 79:2, there are many other verses that refer to the, “Birds of the Heaven’s” also there are about 25 verses that talk about the Stars of Heaven. I hope this clears it up for you. God bless John |
