Bible Question: What is "Lent" and why do some and not all denominations celebrate it? |
Bible Answer: Dear Royal, Lent is part of the Liturgical year. It is the 40 day period between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday. Wikipedia does a pretty good job of explaining the Liturgical year: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liturgical_year Since the Liturgical year is not of direct Scriptural origin, many churches in the Reformation chose not to observe these practices, deeming them an artifact of Romanism. Although I do not observe the Liturgical year, I've always been interested in its design. In Him, Doc |
