Bible Question: what is the church of christ? |
Bible Answer: You have asked what might seem like a simple question but it actually can be very deep and creat some arguements over how it is defined. In the simplest and most general terms it is a reference to the body of Christ (see Rom12:3-5 and Eph4:1-6)or in other words the collective, unified group of believers in Christ, past, present and future. The use of the term church of Christ appears in most denominational literature and is often considered as part of their name. An example would be "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" or the official name of the Catholic Church which is "The Holy Roman Catholic Church of Christ". You will also see "The church of Christ" alone on some places of worship. I personally belong to this group. Some would say that we are just another denomination but I would disagree. We are simply the body of Christ, no less and no more.(Rom16:16) |
