Bible Question: IN 2nd Samuel Chapter 1 Verse 19 what does the word heights mean? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Joe... I once thought that this was a reference to the high places where idol worship was practiced by the ancient Israelites. However, I don't find scholarly concensus for that view. Apparently "high place" or "heights" is simply a poetic reference to mountains of Gilboa where Saul and Jonathan were killed. It was ironic because a "high place" in this context should have been considered a place of safety, especially since it was in their own country. In Him, Doc |
