Bible Question:
Did the Apostle Peter travel to Rome with Paul? Is there a reference in the Bible or in a reputable history book to answer this question? Where was Peter crucified? |
Bible Answer: Dear Shosh, The precise date in which Roman Christians began to gather in synagogues in Rome is unknown. There are apocryphal traditions that are contradictory. The earliest possibility of their founding would have been by Roman Jewish converts present at the day of Pentecost (Acts 2). Peter was said to have been present in Rome as early as 42 AD. Although, given other events that we can correlate from Acts, this, too, seems questionable. Another tradition states that Barnabas was the first to preach the gospel in the city of Rome sometime prior to 50 AD. I've never found documentation capable of unequivocally settling the question. Ultimately both Peter and Paul ministered there. However, they did not arrive together. In Him, Doc |
