Bible Question: could somone please give a more detail answer to this question along with scripture reference if they can. (why should believers pray and speak in tongues. |
Bible Answer: Hello ahmari, I would agree with Doc in his response and the logic he employs! Your question is more of a leading one in nature as you are making an assumption:-) I see no direct command in scripture for any or all believers to "speak in tongues". In fact Paul quite clearly states in 1 Cor. 12:30 , that "All do not speak with tongues, do they?" However, we do see Paul beseeching the believer to: 1. "With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints," (Eph. 6:20 NASB); 2."Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving;" (Col. 4:2 NASB); 3."pray without ceasing," ( 1 Thes. 5:17 NASB) These are but 3 examples of prayer given in the NT regarding prayer. It is with certainty that we are to pray. It would be questionable that we are to speak in tongues! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
