Bible Question:
Is it not illegal to add books or scriptures to the Bible? (Why then are this books in some bibles?(1 Maccabees, 2 Maccabees, Wisdom, Baruch, Sirach) Is it ok to add them even tough it says in revelations not to? |
Bible Answer: Greetings and welcome to the forum, There are hundreds of different translations of the Bible and the ones that generally have additional book are primarily found in the Old Testament. The Jews were masters at retaining God’s Word as they have it recorded and as referred to by Christians as the Old Testament. The additional books that you have mention were not accepted as Scripture by the Jews of old but they are historical Jewish writings that are very dear to the Jews, yet they should not to be confused as being Scripture or inspired by God. God Word is the final say wherever and whenever it comes to a doctrinal issue. 2 Tim. 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Tim. 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 1 Tim. 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; I hope you enjoy the forum, CDBJ |
