Bible Question:
I wonder, when people say there are places in the ESV where they are disappointed in the translation, are they comparing the ESV to the NASB? Or are they comparing both the ESV and NASB to the literal translation of the Greek and Hebrew words? [Disclaimer: In this Question it is not my intention to start a translation debate. Nor am I saying here that one of these two versions is better than the other.] Grace to you, John |
Bible Answer: John, As you know even the Greek and Hebrew changed over time, as our English or American version. We know the NT was written over a short time, so changes were very few, if any - in the Greek and Aramaic. The grammar/ sentence structure of the original is different, as well. With that, we need translators to set it so we understand the Bible. When I study, I like to go back to the orginial to see what is there. I am disappointed in all translations and use several - NASB, KJV, ESV and Amplified ... tot help me. Steve |
