Bible Question: Is there a name for Noah's Wife? |
Bible Answer: Dear jlbanks... Welcome to the forum! The Bible does not give Noah's wife a name -- most Jews just call her what Torah calls her: "Oyshet Noah" meaning, not surprisingly, "wife of Noah". So, we can try to dig around elsewhere (taking it all with a large grain of salt). The ancient flood story from Babylon, the "Epic of Gilgamesh", (in which Noah is called "Uta Napashtim") doesn't give a wife's name either. No help there! Ancient Jewish traditions say Noah's wife was "Naamah", meaning "beautiful" or "pleasing". Naamah was said to have been the sister of Tubal-Cain.
