Bible Question:
What is the LOT that's mentioned in these verses, that God gave? I know it means someone or something was chosen by God. Maybe I just answered my own question, I don't know. (KJV) 1Sam.14:41 Therefore Paul said unto the LORD God of Israel, Give a perfect lot. And Saul and Jonathan were taken: but the people escaped. 42 And Saul said, Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken. Acts 1:26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. Acts 13:19 And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot. Number 33:54 And ye shall divide the land by lot for an inheritance among your families: and to the more ye shall give the more inheritance, and to the fewer ye shall give the less inheritance: every man's inheritance shall be in the place where his lot falleth; according to the tribes of your fathers ye shall inherit. |
Bible Answer: Hi C, Lots are like when we draw straws to see who wins, and I always draw the shot one! Check this out from Strong’s, which gives the Koine Greek word for lots. kleros, klay'-ros; probably from Greek 2806 (klao) (through the idea of using bits of wood, etc., for the purpose); a die (for drawing chances); by implication a portion (as if so secured); by extension an acquisition (especially a patrimony, figurative) heritage, inheritance, lot, participle CDBJ |
