Bible Question:
Hello, all. I have a friend who is an athetist, whom I told of some of the prophecy in the OT which speaks of lands/cities which were laid waste, according to the word of the Lord, and prophesied that there would never be anything there (on those lands/cities) again. I know that today there are places that would be ideal to build cities on, with sea ports and what have you, but since it has been a very long time since I studied these things, I'm asking for several examples that show up in our more "modern" day; i.e., that there are places where it would be ideal to build, and no reason not too build other than the prophecy of the Lord regarding them. Any help is very appreciated. Thank you in advance. -Bill |
Bible Answer: Hi Bill, If you want to do your friend a big favor you should elaborate on the person of Jesus the Son of God because unbelievers don’t have the capacity to understand other things in the Bible. 1 Cor. 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. The only thing, biblically speaking, that can make any sense to an unbeliever is the message about Jesus Christ. I always try, when leading a spiritual conversation, to direct the person to God’s solution, Jesus Christ, because He is the answer to understanding the Bible. Since you are demonstrating to your friend the fact that prophecy is fulfilled I would suggest the prophecy’s about the promise of the Messiah and how they were all accomplished in Jesus when he came into the world. Examples: Isaiah 53: This same group of verses was used by Philip to bring a person to the knowledge of Christ when the person didn’t understand the Scripture he was reading Acts 8:30-35 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? [31] And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. [32] The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: [33] In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth. [34] And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man? [35] Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. It’s hard to miss in a conversation with an individual if you just expound on Jesus and who he is. The Book of John was written to bring a person to the understanding of just who Jesus is and this understanding can cause one to put their faith in Jesus, as a result Christ will give them the gift of eternal life when they fully trust in Him. John 20:30-31 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: [31] But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. Pray for boldness to speak about Christ, and that God will reveal the truth about His Son to those that you are speaking with. Have a great day, CDBJ |
