Bible Question:
My favorite Bible (NRSV) is falling apart! I'm getting it rebound, but bought a new version for the interim. It's a NKJV --- but with a Thompson Chain Reference. I'm really excited about this tool, because I've been reading whole books of the Bible for the last few years -- and I'm excited about doing more thematic studies in the coming months. Any stories about the merits or pitfalls of the Thompson Chain Reference? Yours, JRM |
Bible Answer: JRM The Thompson Chain Reference is an excellent Bible, well constructed, excellent paper, excellent binding symth sewn and should last you a life time. I hope you bought genuine leather, never never buy bonded. I have many copies of Thompson in various translations, including a copy on computer and use one or the other nearly daily. I will caution you to one thing, While the topical chain is excellent it is not inspired but are rather a man's opinion. I have found cases where a verse was included that I felt did not speak to the topic it was chained too. I was looking for an example and I could not find one which that in itself speaks volumes. The situation that I consider a problem is very very very infrequent. :-) Also the more you use it and learn it’s various features the more useful it will become to you. If you teach or ever have an occasion to preach the Bible will prove itself invaluable for lesson or sermon construction. Enjoy you new Bible make sure you break it in correctly starting with Bible seting on it back and slowly opening a few pages from each side and gently pressing them down until you reach the center. Many fantastic books were destroyed because they weren’t broken in correctly. EdB |
