Subject: What is an Apostle? |
Bible Note: Dear Taleb, I was thinking about how to illustrate the distinction between "Apostle" (the foundation layers, miracle workers, infallible writers) and apostles (sent ones). I believe it is essential to the church today to understand that no one living today (or since the death of the Apostle John) has held that office as it was held by those "Apostles" 2000 years ago. No, the foundation has been laid, and all who build upon it are wise. The danger of believing that Apostleship exists today, as it did then, is that anyone could claim to be an "Apostle" and demand that his words be taken as Scripture. Joseph Smith for example! If the church asks you to take a message across town to another church, does that make you an Angel? :-) John Reformed |
