Bible Question:
Sola Scriptura ? If Sola Scriptura is not valid, then the logical conclusion would be there must be some other valid source. Scriptura Plus? Just Plus without Scripture? How does one determine if the Pluses are from God or Man? If they are from God, should they be included in Scripture and then we would be back to Sola Scriptura? What if the Pluses contradict Scripture? Which takes precedence? Is Church Authority a valid source? If so should the disciples have submitted to the Pharisees after Jesus Ascension? If Church authority is not valid then whose teachings are valid? What about Nestorism, Sunni, Shiite, Sufism, Bahai, Mormonism, Etc. Shalor |
Bible Answer: Some say that the Scripture alone is our authority for faith and practice. Others say that the Scripture by itself is insufficient, and that tradition and the teaching authority of the church must be added to the Scripture. Are there other alternatives? What of those who say that God speaks to them audibly or through dreams. Are their ideas to be considered here? And are there other ideas to be considered? Buddha's? Mohammed's? Joseph Smith's? God has spoken once: He said, (Deu 12:32) "What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it". He said again: (Pro 30:5) "Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar". And yet, we probably will not settle it here. For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not (Job 33:14). |
