Bible Question: was the name Jesus a common name in His time or was the name given specifically to Him? |
Bible Answer: Dear Ricachief, Jesus was the name told to Jesus' earthly parents that they were to give him. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew and Aramaic. The New Testament was written in Greek. Jesus was His name. We know it as such because that is how it is translated into English from the Greek. In the Old Testament, if it were translated from the Hebrew, it would be translated Joshua. Jesus is the Jewish Messiah. In Greek, that same title is translated into English as Christ. So, Christ is not so much His name as it is His title. He is the Messiah or the Christ. -Itiswritten |
