Subject: Where did the Book of Mormons come from? |
Bible Note: Greentwiga While there are similarly of idea there has never been any indication of any sort of plagiarism between the two books written one by Solomon Spaulding and the other by Joseph Smith. It has been thought that Smith probably got the idea from the Spaulding’s book and greatly expanded upon it. But no apologist I can find ever suggests any plagiarism or makes any reference to any handwriting analysis. Therefore this gets more interesting by the minute. I have never heard it even suggested that their was any plagiarism and to date I can find no reference to any handwriting comparison in any anti cultic, or anti Mormon data base. Something that damning would certainly be held up as proof. The only existing known manuscript of Manuscript Found was found in Hawaii in or around 1834. I believe that manuscript now resides in Oberlin Ohio. This manuscript has been studied and to the best of my knowledge no suggestion of plagiarism has ever been made much less any kind of positive result of handwriting analysis. Since the Book of Mormon was first published in 1830 which says any work of Solomon Spaulding that could have been copied had be done before 1830. That is a very long time and I wonder about your Dr Spauldings information since so much time has elapsed. However I hope you can still contact Dr Spaulding, I think you owe it to everyone to document his information and make it available to many apologetic organizations that could use that information as additional proof of the origin of the Book of Mormon. If you can’t directly get the information yourself at least e-mail me the last known address of your Dr Spaulding and I will contact him and get any information he has into the hands of people that can verify its validity. The King James plagiarism within the Book of Mormon is well documented and even includes scripture that is now considered scribal errors mistakenly included in the King James. EdB |
