Bible Question:
If I were to start afresh to read the bible or if a non believer wants to know about the bible which book shall I start to read 1st? Genesis in OT or Matthew in NT. I had so much "trouble" trying to stay at Genesis that I jumped to the 4 Gospels first and very much later tried Genesis again until I'm stuck at Chronicles. Jumped again to Acts - Galatians and then tried to go back to Chronicles. Am now reading other materials (books) that is subject based, scriptures are refered from the bible to support what was discussed. I find that I understand the scriptures better this way but its bits of pieces here and there. I don't see the chronological order except to where I had read in the bible. My Pastor wants us to at least read the bible cover to cover once. If I do so, I know I will just run thru without understanding the scriptures. What should I do? Reading postings in this forum also helped a lot. |
Bible Answer: Jesus is the rock to which your foundation should be built on. So, if you have done that; Romans 10:9, or in other words, asked Jesus into your heart to be your Lord - over your life and, savior of your soul. Point I'm trying to make - Jesus is also called a stumbling block to those who try to understand His word/bible without being so to say in the club. That said, it is not saying you need a decoder ring to start reading the bible. But what you read will be more blessing than curse. Try the "one Year Bible". You read once a day and at the end of the year you will have read the whole bible. Every day has old and new testiment with proverbs readings. The readings start Jan. 1st so now would be a great time to start. I would also suggest to get a pictoral childrens bible that has the bible stories new and old put into storey form.It will be interesting and put you right up there with most people's understanding at church. Be patient with yourself when you read. If you don't understand as you read somehow it will make sense. You'll have times at church or, listening to others when you'll go-thats what that meant. Scriptures say God will give you wisdom if you ask for it. Pray for it. Remember God is not a liar so, if you don't understand right away don't cast judgement as to the meaning. And if what you are reading or hearing doesn't seem to line up with what you believe or have heard. It isn't God who is wrong.God is a good God, and loves us all keep believing in his goodness and ask for the wisdom to understand. Do you know what true understanding is? It is standing under God with all you are, to get all He has. Be patient He has alot to give. He wants you to prosper in all things.3 John 2, I think. I would rather be a fool in the eyes of man than a fool in the eyes of God. A fool is someone who knows the word of God and doesn't do it. Wisdom is more precious than gold, its what gets you the gold. God is the only one with wisdom. Ok, He made the wisdom and it is for all to have. And if you believe in Him you will have it. When I say believe in Him I mean: learn of Him as you are but, go for the whole God. do not let any one convince you He is anything less than his word says. always take God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit at their word. Even if your faith might not be as high as Gods word. keep believing and hearing and soon your faith will catch up with the word. |
