Bible Question: Why is the Sabbath now celebrated on Sunday?? I know about how it was changed after Christ's death to honor his rising again...but was that not changed by the law? Can God's law just be overridden like that?? And should no work be done at all on the Sabbath? |
Bible Answer: Actualy the Sabbath is still the same day Friday sun down to Saturday sun down. A Jewish day starts at sundown and ends at the next sundown. Incorrrectly Sunday the Christian day of worship has been renamed the Sabbath. As for the laws, here in the US at time of the forming of the this nation Chrisitanity was in high regard. It was decided to institute what many call "Blue" laws. These put in place such things as stores being closed on Sunday, prohitbition of selling alcohol and such on Sunday and etc. However Jews in the this country have always kept the Sabbath. This can be seen very vividly in the New York diamond and electronic districts. Most if not all Jewish businesses close around 2-3 PM in preparation for Sabbath but are open Sunday for business. If you want a further discussion on the Sabbath do a search in the box to the upper right labeled Quick search and type in Sabbath. EdB |
