Subject: God's name -I AM- |
Bible Note: LeslieN, Jesus saying that He is the "I AM" (Ego Emi) of John 8:58 harkens back to Ex. 3:14 where God told Moses to tell them that "I Am" sent him. The Jews understood this to be a direct claim to (His) Diety- which is why they took up stones to stone Him. The Hebrew word for I AM-hayah- means to exist, or to become. I AM is a name of God told us by scripture and is descriptive of His very nature. Jesus is The I AM- the Jehovah of the OT- God in the flesh. His very nature is divine. He is the second Person of the trinity, very God of very God. If you're intersted in a more detailed study of the names of God, a very good resource is "Names of God" by Nathan Stone, late of the Moody Bible Institute. Though very thorough, it is a fairly easy read and contains much solid exposition of this neglected topic. Possibly this would be of help to you. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
