Bible Question:
In your Cor 13:1-13, you changed charity to love. By definition, love does not mean charity nor charity means love? Why did you change the word charity to love? There is also a passage in the Bible that whosoever adds or deletes a word from the Bible shall receive an equal punishment. Please give the best definition of charity and love. Sincerely, reygalicio@juno.com |
Bible Answer: Charity is the word used by the King James Version of the Bible which was writen in 1611. The original word in the manuscripts is agape. Today we translate it as love in 1611 they translated it charity. Both words refer to the same thing. The verse you are refering to about adding or deleting a word from the Bible is Rev 22:18-19 "I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book." This verse is specifically talking about changing words in this particular book i.e. the Book of Revelation not the rest of the Bible. although I believe the same applies. However in this case the word was not changed. It is still agape (love/charity) and refers to the same now as it did then. |
