Bible Question:
God sees us as perfect (like Jesus, who didn't sin) - and yet in prayer we are confessing these sins that he doesn't see. I understand the importance of confessing our sin, just looking for a theological response or alternative interpretation to my point. |
Bible Answer: Pia, Gos is aware of our sins, although we often act as if we are not aware of them. Take a look at the story in Luke 18:9-14 "And He also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed others with contempt: "Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: 'God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 'I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.' "But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, the sinner!' "I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted." The confession of sins "1455 The confession (or disclosure) of sins, even from a simply human point of view, frees us and facilitates our reconciliation with others. Through such an admission man looks squarely at the sins he is guilty of, takes responsibility for them, and thereby opens himself again to God and to the communion of the Church in order to make a new future possible." http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/p2s2c2a4.htm#IX Emmaus |
