Bible Question:
Where is God? I have been actively seeking for at least five years now. I, and my family, was recently baptised in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I have been regularly attending church for about a year now, and spend time in the word (though not as much as I should, I'm sure). But I still feel alone. Mathew7:7-8 7"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. Deuteronomy 4:29 But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul. Jeremiah 29 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I have been seeking, I have knocked, I have prayed, I have aksed, I deisre nothing more than to know God. But even after all this I still doubt. I still question. i know that my doubt has made me a more knowledgable person, but what good is knowledge without God's presence? Where is God; why am I not allowed to know Him; how long must i seek before I can find Him? I feel no joy at the prospect of eternal life with Jesus. I want to. What else can I do, what have i left out? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Schoolman! Elijah was facing a crucial moment in his spiritual life when he sought the Lord for answers… The Lord sent him to a particular meeting place and this is how the meeting transpired: Then he was told, ’Go out and stand o the mountain before Yahweh.’ For at that moment Yahweh was going by. A mighty hurricane split the mountains and shattered the rocks before Yahweh, after the hurricane, an earthquake. But after the earthquake, fire. But Yahweh was not in the fire. And after the fire, a light murmuring sound. And when Elijah heard this, he covered his face with his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. The voice came to him, which said, ‘What are you doing here, Elijah? (1 Kings 19:11-13) I use this passage as a reminder that God does not only reveals Himself through wondrous awe-inspiring acts… God is able to reveal Himself in very subtle and nonchalant ways! In 1 Kings 19:11-13, we find a clear demonstration of where God is! He was not found in the majestic and overpowering signs (mighty hurricane, a thundering earthquake, devastating fire)… Elijah heard a whisper, a murmur, in the air and he knew that Yahweh had come! Many times that is the way we find God in our personal lives… we seek the extraordinary, God comes to us in the smile of a passerby; we seek the grandiose and imposing, God comes to us in the form of a needy person who we can assist with money, food, a sympathetic shoulder/ear or simply sharing Scripture! Remember, God is not found in a specific place or formula (John 4:23-24); indeed, God is in each and every single believer (John 14:16-17; Romans 10:8-13). It is also interesting to see Faith from Christ’s perspective (John 20:29); He is patient but adamant: Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe! Please read, reread if you are familiar with it, Hebrews 11. This whole chapter is about Faith! It demonstrates the trajectory that we are called to follow--those who saw (experienced more directly) God do not have an advantage over those who experience God through Faith: These all won acknowledgement through their faith, but they did not received what was promised, since God had made provision for us to have something better, and they were not to reach perfection except with us. (Hebrews 11:39-40) The Jews wanted signs and the Greeks thought to discover God through knowledge (worldly wisdom)… but to both was offered Christ, Crucified: Power and Wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:21-24). Humble yourself to God that He may lift you up! (James 4:10) God Bless! Angel |
