Bible Question: Just how much isi there really to this King James Version being more accurate than the others. I have heard so much that practically paint the NIV, NLV, etc.. as nearl blasphemous. |
Bible Answer: Greetings Vectortrue! The short answer to your question is that there is nothing to it! :-) Those who take this position have very little understanding of how the Bible was actually transmitted throughout history. The original manuscripts were Divinely inspired and without error. However, we do not have any of the original manuscripts. Thus, we posses copies, and copies of copies, ect.... Some of the copies are better than others. When the KJV was translated, the translators only had less than a dozen manuscripts from which to work, and most of them were of an 'inferior' type. Don't get my wrong! The KJV is an excellent translation, but it is not the MOST accurate. Now, we have literally thousands of manuscripts and the modern translations are much more able to determine what the original manuscripts actually said. Those who favor the KJV take the position that any deviation from what the KJV says is adding to or taking away from Scripture. But, the KJV is NOT Scripture. It is a translation of Scripture. :-) Scripture is what the original manuscripts actually said. So, to the extent that the modern translations are closer to what the originals actually said, they are more accurate - even if they disagree with the KJV. I hope this helps! p.s. - If you use the seach feature and search for 'KJ ONLY', you will find many more detailed posts that deal with this issue. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
