Bible Question:
I've read some good stuff by Metzger that supports the use of the oldest manuscripts, and that supports newer English translations over those based on the Textus Receptus. Are there any really good PRO-TR books out there? Most of the stuff I've seen tends to use circular reasoning. I'd like to read a good pro-TR book to be really familiar with arguments from both sides of the aisle. Thanks! Huron |
Bible Answer: You know now that you mention I can't think of any. Most that are pro TR are written by KJV only folks and contain little critical thinking. That is a shame. I see the discussion coming down basically to one point which is better a few "oldest" manuscripts or hundreds of newer manuscripts. Hort and Westcott made some accusations against the TR which have recently been proven false. I see a change within some circles, lately it seems that perhaps the scholarly endeavor of the TR is becoming more appreciated. Perhaps in the future we will see some quality writing on it. Something other than the mindless if your not TR and KJV your of the Devil dribble that is out there. EdB |
