Bible Question:
Good evening to every one online. Im a baby in Christ, and trying to learn as much as I can learn regarding the word of God. I have been told in all thy getting get thine own understanding. I looked up that verse and found it in Proverbs4:7. In the king James version it reads Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom; and with all thy getting get understanding. My question is this, when I study and I get and understanding of what Im reading, and then speak to someone else about it, and they say my understanding is wrong. How should I study? by myself or with someone who knows more than me, and get their understanding? I have to get my own understanding right? |
Bible Answer: Dear Christian, young in the faith, you will find no better guide to God's word than God Himself! Therefore, the sine qua non of Bible study is to make prayer an integral part of it. Pray for a humble and contrite spirit that is unfettered by human opinion and preconceived ideas and speculations, but open and eager to learn God's truth; pray for spiritual discernment; pray that your study may be fruitful and inviolable to the vagaries and vicissitudes that flesh is heir to which militate against right understanding of spiritual truth. There are a thousand ways to aid and enhance your study of Scripture. You have been given some of them, and good ones at that, by other members of the Forum. These tools and approaches will help you. But to my mind the greatest of these is prayer. "Open my eyes, that I may behold wonderful things from Your law." [Psalm 119:8]. --Hank |
