Bible Question:
Jesus was circumsized and why are christians of to-day not following this practice? What is the difference between Christ original church and a modern denomination? Can you please enlighten me with your comments on the following: "whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven" |
Bible Answer: Hello FytRobert and welcome. Answer 1: Acts 15 describes the council which established that there was no reason for non-Jews to be circumcised. God had implemented a new, better type of circumcision, that of the heart. In Romans 4, Paul pick up this fact in establishing there is nothing in physical circumcision which aids in the Christian life. Answer 2: There is a variety of opinion here. In one way there is nothing different between the early church and now, because only believers are the true church with Christ as the head. On the other hand, I see the original (and correct) organization to be that of multiple elders overseeing the local church (see 1 Tim 3; Titus 1) with the men taking the leading roles (1 Tim 2:8-15). Answer 3: There are two views I'm aware of. a) That whatever I bind in Jesus' name (be they spiritual, natural, political, etc. forces), God is obligated to bind in heaven. b) That whatever I bind on earth has already been bound in heaven (and shown as such in God's Word so we know what they are), therefore I have authority to bind. I prefer the latter understanding. Steve |
