Bible Question: the Tranfiguration of Christ (Matt 17:1-6) was how long before his Crucifiction? |
Bible Answer: Bob, The smart Aleck answer would be ten chapters, since it is a little difficult to be very precise using what information is provided by the Gospels. But the Harmony of the Gospels appendix section of my wife's KJV places The Transfiguration sometime between the May and October prior to His crucifixion. This conjecture is apparently based on the celebration of various feast listed in John's Gospel, with the Transfiguration occuring after the Passover prior to the one on which Jesus is crucified and before the feast of Tabernacles in the year before Jesus was crucified. So somewhere between 6 and 11 months. This seems to be based on John 3 mentioning the Passover the year prior to the one at which Jesus was crucified and the Feast of tabernacles in John 7. But the Gospels are not precise in this matter. John does not record the Transfiguration. It is recorded in the other three Gospels who are more vague about the various Feast days. So it is really educated guess work by the Gospel harmonizer. Emmaus |
