Bible Question: Compare Matthew 10:34 with 11:29. In the former, Jesus says He brings not peace but a sword. In the latter verse, He describes Himself as being gentle and humble in heart. How do both descriptions apply to Him? |
Bible Answer: We need to choose His yoke (12:19) or not ... that is the sword. Mat. 10:34 sounds strange, because He is the Prince of Peace (Isa. 9:6) and He said He is leaving peace (John 14:27). The sword divides even families (Mat. 10:35ff) because there are families where not everyone will choose Him. They do not want to chose Him, tho He is gentle and humble in heart. They do not want to be on His side of the sword. They do not want His yoke. It means they have to be like Him. |
