Bible Question:
After reading yesterdays long dialogue about church membership, it seemed rather like arguement rather than higher Christian dialogue. I think the forum is suppose to be compamionship sharing ideas and scriptures, rather than competition and rudeness. I read all the notes, and said this is so infintile and lackked scriptual support by several. If by the notes alone I was to draw a conclusion, I would say "typical Christians always fighting." I do not think this is what the Lord finds pleasing. Do you? I happen to attend a church that has no church menbership! To my total amazement the system works so well. I doubt church membership is near as important as belonging to the family of Jesus Christ. I would like your comments or suggestions. agape, justme |
Bible Answer: Greetings Justme! I hope you are feeling better my friend! You are in our prayers. Two things are obvious about church membership. 1) Church membership is not a requirement of salvation. One becomes a part of The Church when one accepts Christ. 2) Church membership is not forbidden in Scripture. So, this issue is morally neutral. There are however several 'advantages' to church membership. 1) It serves as an act of commitment to a local body of believers. 2) It makes one accountable to a local body of believers. So, as a practical matter, I support the practice. However, I fully recongnize that it is neither Biblical nor unBiblical since it is never mentioned at all. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
