Bible Question: What type of wood was the cross made out of? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Mipps... The bible does not tell us what kind of wood from which the cross was made. Whatever it was, it was probably cheap and plentiful. An old tradition holds to Dogwood, but that seems unlikely for a variety of reasons. Shittim wood has also been suggested. There are lots of "splinters of the true cross" around, but their total mass would make a Sequoia look like a blade of grass. It is unlikely we will ever know the answer to your question for certain.
