Subject: Adultery by both parties. Divorce? |
Bible Note: Greetings Alanah! You are correct that adultery is a valid grounds for divorce. However, Scripture does make it clear that the 'guilty' partner is not free to re-marry. Mt. 19:9 says, "I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery." Mark 10:11-12 says, "He answered, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. 12 And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery." Luke 16:18 says, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery." So, while Matthew clearly allows the innocent party to remarry, the guilty party is never given the okay to remarry. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
