Subject: Did Jesus have brothers and sisters? |
Bible Note: Alencon: Neither did I give a speculative opinion but a conclusion based on known biblical facts. I cannot see any cogent reason whatever to advance the decidedly untenable hypothesis that Joseph sired children before he married Mary. This is speculation in the superlative degree; and even if it were true, the offspring of Joseph's seed by a woman other than Mary could in no sense be considered related to Jesus by genetic lineage. I like your astute observation regarding the assumption by the townsfolk that Joseph was Jesus' biological father, and I've wondered whether there were rumors about the legitimacy of the carpenter's son. Scripture is silent on this point, of course, but it is not silent that Jesus was mocked and scoffed at for virtually everything else He did, said, or claimed to be. The mockers and the scoffers rot in their graves, but praise God, our victorious Redeemer lives! --Hank |
