Bible Question: where in the bible do it says how old jesus was when he died. |
Bible Answer: PatJ89 There is not one passage in the Bible that gives Jesus' age at his death. But we can piece together the information that is there and know he was approximately 33. Luke gives an approximate date of Jesus’ birth Luke 2 telling us it was during the time of Caesar Augustus ordered census and that Quirinius was Governor. We know this to be around 4BC. Then moving forward we see John the Baptist who was about 6 months older than Jesus Luke 1 begin his ministry Luke 3 at the time of Tiberous Caesar, and Pontius Pilate being the Governor of Judea. Along with the other information in Luke 3:1 we know it was around 26-30AD. This would fit since before a Jewish man could serve as a priest he had to be at least 30 years of age Num 4:3. This became the age where Jewish men were recognized to be able to speak and teach on religious matters. So we know John is thirty and has began his ministry we then see Jesus coming into the picture again some time after John begins Jesus is probably now 30 Himself. If we then follow the chronology of Jesus’ ministry we know he ministered 3 years. This would make Jesus 33 when He was crucified for our sins. Secular history helps verify this by things it records about Herod and the various High priests and reports made to Rome by Pilate. We are fairly certain Jesus’ death was in 30AD tracing the evidence back from everything I stated we see with his birth was probably in late 4 BC. That very briefly is how we know Jesus age and date of birth and his death. Church records, history and persecution of Christians then give us further indication what we have the time period pretty much exact. EdB |
