Bible Question:
Ok, I get that principal and have come to the same conclusion about where to share the gospel because Jesus does later say to go into all the world. So that verse is a specific, for the time, principal that he gave to the disciples specifically. I guess my question then would be, how far do you take that? Because then Jesus goes into telling them to say, "And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give. Do not acquire gold, or silver, or copper for your money belts, or a bag for your journey, or even two coats, or sandals, or a staff; for the worker is worthy of his support." So are we to take that as also just meant for the disciples? How far do you go with that, and what is a criteria for knowing if the message is for us or them? |
Bible Answer: Some of these commands (Matthew 10, Mark 6, Luke 9) to the disciples were at least withdrawn temporarily just before entering the Garden of Gethsemane. Luke 22 34 And He said, "I say to you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me." 35 And He said to them, "When I sent you out without money belt and bag and sandals, you did not lack anything, did you?" They said, "No, nothing." 36 And He said to them, "But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one. 37 "For I tell you that this which is written must be fulfilled in Me, 'AND HE WAS NUMBERED WITH TRANSGRESSORS'; for that which refers to Me has its fulfillment." 38 They said, "Lord, look, here are two swords." And He said to them, "It is enough." |
