Bible Question:
Hello, I am curious as to the boundaries/parameters/definitions of women's roles in the church as laid out in the bible. Blessings, George |
Bible Answer: This is a great question. Basically the scriptures tell us that Women are to be silent in church (the worship service), and are not to teach (adults). It also says that pastors and deacons are husbands who are to have one wife (meaning not married to 2 or 3 at a time). Women can teach little children as they would at home (provided that they are mature chritians who can answer questions kids ask). Women are also able to evangelize (share Jesus with the lost). They can be missionaries (but there should be men with her group so that the men will lead the church and so that the women will not try to take over the authority in the church - as eve told her husband to eat the fruit). Women can have fellowhship groups and do lots of good service for the Lord as Pheobe did in being a servant of Christ (just as all believers are). The only thing a woman cannot do in church is be a pastor, deacon, or teach adult men classes. They are also, according to scripture, to wear a veil (full length) over their hair so that their glory (their hair) is covered - this shows submission to the leaders of the church the church submits to Christ and Women are to submit to the men (godly submission... not pounding authority but gody authority). As this is what scripture teaches. |
