Subject: Multiple authors for Paul's epistles? |
Bible Note: Both of those just attribute the letter as being written by Paul. For 1 Thes.1:1 "Paul shared authorship of 1 and 2 Thess. with Silvanus and Timothy. Timothy a young Jewish understudy of Paul, also joined with Paul in the writing of 2 Cor., Pil., Col., and Philem. Silvanus, known as Silas in Acts, was a leader in the church in Jerusalem (Acts 15:22) and a prophet (Acts 15:32). Later Silvanus shared in the writing of 1 Pet. (5:12). He was therefore an associate both of Peter and Paul. I never really thought about it before, but I also think that the letters were kind of a joint effort, or at least read by the others mentioned who may have also had inspiration from God and were included. I've seen it happen in church where one will prophesy and another will add to it. Hope it helped. Deb |
