Bible Question (short): Correct me please. |
Question (full): It appears to me from the bible that we can't do anything to increase our chances to be "saved". It's entirely up to God. But it also says that God can make you enjoy life to the maximum. Well, at least some people say that. Jesus said that he came to give people life more abundantly. But i'm really depressed more often than not. Yet in Hebrews 4:3 it says: "although the works were finished from the foundation of the world". What does this mean? Romans 9:19: "Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will? Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?" Maybe not, but i'd like to point out that things don't have hopes, fears and feelings. Martin Luther said: "But no one can give such a heart except the Spirit of God, who makes the person be like the law, so that he actually conceives a heartfelt longing for the law and henceforward does everything, not through fear or coercion, but from a free heart. Such a law is spiritual since it can only be loved and fulfilled by such a heart and such a spirit. If the Spirit is not in the heart, then there remain sin, aversion and enmity against the law, which in itself is good, just and holy." Romans 5:18 says "Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life." So in other words we're just pilgrims on this planet. We're passing through with pain, suffering and evil in preperation for something new and better? Or am i wrong? |
