Bible Question: It is my understanding that some Christian denomination(s) practice "sisters' veiling. What is sisters' veiling. Some also practice feet washing. How do they apply this practice? |
Bible Answer: Some of the Holiness churches do what I think your referring to as sister veiling. They require their women to have their heads covered in service. Many use lace or very thin linen hankies to accomplish this that come down over their faces. This is in response to 1 Cor. 11:5 But every woman who has her head uncovered while praying or prophesying disgraces her head, for she is one and the same as the woman whose head is shaved. I would think many times it is done to prevent the young men from being distracted during service by a comely young woman :-). Also I think some of the Catholic orders still require the nuns to cover their face from time to time. As for foot washing it is done by many denominations as methods to bring about humbleness and piety. I have also seen it done as a form of reconciliation after a dispute (read church feud) has been settled. Unless you have been involved in a foot washing it is very hard to understand the blessings you receive both washing and by having your foot washed. EdB |
