Bible Question: define and describe apostasy. |
Bible Answer: We get our word apostasy from the Greek word apostasia (a falling away, defection) the feminine form of the Greek word which means divorce. The passages in Acts and 2 The. were already cited. M@shuwbah (turning away, turning back, backsliding, faithless) is the Hebrew word. Jeremiah 3 uses the later five times (vv 6, 8, 11, 12, 22), in the NAS. He uses apostasy four other times (2:19, 5:6, 8:5; 14:7). Proverbs 1:32 calls it waywardness. Hosea 11:7 says turning from and 14:4 says that he will heal their apostasy. |
